Conditioning: This workshop is designed to increase the beauty, ease, and safety with which intermediate dancers perform standard holds and inverts, and to help new dancers develop a strong foundation to progress toward advanced pole work. David will demonstrate a series of simple strength-building exercises using the floor and the pole, will teach you how to apply Proprioreceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (or PNF) to your stretching regimen to help safely achieve faster gains in muscular flexibility, and provide a basic introduction to training the spine for deeper back-bending. |
Progressions & Combos This workshop is designed to help advanced dancers learn the progressions to make elusive pole holds possible and to reduce the frequency of visits to the floor while avoiding redundancy during elongated aerial combos. David will discuss the necessity of entirely eliminating all momentum from kicking or leaping into the twisted grip handspring, while providing training methods to facilitate its elimination. There will also be discussion of progressions for the extended (or horizontal) pencil and a selection of aerial splits variations. We will proceed to discuss the fine points of choreographing aerial combos and learn a short, but fun and challenging routine! Videos of David’s pole
work can be viewed here.

David Owen
From childhood to present, David has always been interested acrobatics, artistic expression, and pushing the limits of his body. Naturally, when discovering pole dance, David felt at home and took to the medium right away in spite of having no dance or gymnastic background. He has a passion for performing, learning, and teaching pole dance and fitness, which has been his primary addiction since discovering this beloved sport and art form! David has been embraced by the pole community nationwide as a performer and instructor and has enjoyed much camaraderie and kinship amongst those who share his love of pole. When he is not on the pole, David is a practicing astrologer, an avid coffee drinker, lover of red wines, and an enthusiastic cook. |
